a church without curtains REMIX
Where God is known and loved.
Where you are loved and known.
A church without pretense.
The idea for this study originated during a Sunday morning service at Grace, a multicultural, multiracial church located in the city of Detroit where I serve as pastor. At the time, we had large fabric curtains hanging in the back of our sanctuary to “shrink the room.” I hated those curtains! They were a tangible reminder that we did not have enough people to fill the space given to us by God.
That morning when I was preaching I heard God speak to my heart, “I want this to be a church without curtains.” I got excited because I thought God was going to pack out our building with people and we could lose those curtains. However, as I lingered with God’s words over time, I realized His desire was not to merely increase attendance. Rather, He wanted to remove all barriers keeping us from a greater intimacy with Him and with others.
A church without curtains REMIX is the second edition of an 8-week study formatted for small groups, written by my wife Meg and me. It includes personal narratives from members of our church family. Each chapter corresponds with the week’s message, which can be accessed on gracewried.com. You also have the option of participating in an online small group.
We consider this an invitation to a season of exploration and growth and a launching pad to living life with more freedom. Commit to the process and you can count on growing in intimacy with Jesus and others!
